I actually started this a couple of weeks back when one of the blogs I visit issued the challenge to use her digital papers to make a project. Well, being who I am ~ I got started right away and then had creative freeze (something I suffer from regularly when I need to produce on demand ~ so to speak) so, needless to say I did not finish it in time for the challenge, but I liked it anyway and so thought I would share it here.

I’ve also started creating this…It won’t be finished for awhile, so hopefully it will give me a few weeks for Pink Saturday. Another quest to use up older supplies ~ I used some handmade paper a friend gave me sometime back to cover each one of the pages I cut from sturdy cardboard (just another thing I tend to keep around for times such as this). This is as far as I’ve made it…

The cover and I still do not think I’m done with it as it just doesn’t sit right yet. The trinket in the center was picked up at a yard sale for 50 cents a couple of summers ago ~ I love the tiny butterfly on the left and dragonfly on the right. If you want a better look at them, just click on the photo.

And here’s my take on it…

I needed a Valentine’s Day card for my husband – something not too “sweet”, but still with the look of a Valentine and in keeping with my own style. Thankfully, my husband likes anything I make for him.

The polka dot paper, the stamped sentiment, the button twine and buttons are all Papertrey Ink products.

Having Problems Leaving Comments?

This has been a problem for me on some blogs for quite some time now. Today I found out why. Through Pink Saturday, I visited a blog and learned that Blogger had apparently made some changes without notifying anyone – or if they did, I’m not aware of it. It has something to do with using Explorer and the settings on blogger for how you receive comments – I’m not all THAT clear on that part of it.

If you’re having problems receiving comments – go into your “dashboard”, click on “settings”, then “comments”, scroll down and click on “pop up” for how your comments screen is set up. Now, that may not be the reason I have not been receiving more than 1-4 comments, but it sure seems to be the reason I have not been able to leave comments on some blogs. Hopefully, if you’ve been having this problem as well, this will help.

Sweet Vintage Love

I do so love Valentine’s day. The reds and the pinks, the paper heart doily, lots of glitter and hearts….be still my own heart…

And finally we have some snow…. My husband clearing it out with a little help from our sweetest bulldog Cuj. He actually spends a lot of time trying to kill the snow blower, so him and Dad are having a talk – notice the intense concentration…

Whew! I’ve been away for awhile, enjoying family and the holidays, then taking some time to close out 2011 and do some regrouping.

Really – we need the snow. So far we’ve had very little. Just a couple of things – a “let it snow” banner… " These pics were taken in a hurry – going out the door to take them to Lake Tahoe Holidays…

I did another one in vintage browns with music paper, etc – I really liked that one, but apparently I did not photo it – oh well.

Pink Christmas and Pink Saturday…

I enjoy so much participating in Pink Saturday, just do not always have the pinks. This week however, I have a set of tags I made with a vintage image of a beautiful angel in tones of pink, aqua, and sepia. I hope you enjoy it and please pop over to Beverly’s at How Sweet the Sound to view some amazing talent and blogs full of wondrous pinks.

Oh, I almost forgot about these until I went to pull my photo – I made these to hold gift cards for my sister-in-law and niece for Christmas… very simple. I used a little glassine bag, covered it with paper (again older I’m trying to use up), and then made the little tags (stamps from Papertrey) and tied them with a snowflake button.

How’s your Christmas decorating going? Mine is slow but I’m savoring it. Brought up the rest of the boxes last nite – I know – some of you have had your decorating done for sometime now, but this is actually pretty good for me.

Don’t you love the new snowflake die from Papertrey? I can think of a million ways to use it – just need the time..

A sweet vintage image of children at play in the snow, a little machine sewing, paint, and glitter ~ I’m a happy woman!

A simple Christmas in Paris…the image is from a beautiful set of digital images by Seneca Pond. I stamped and rhinestoned (I know that’s not a word) snowflakes, hand dyed and crinkled my seam binding and of course painted and glittered my jingle bell.

A beautiful background paper from Bety’s Etsy Shop makes this card along with a sentiment from the “Christmas Music” set by Flourishes, and the stamped trees are from an old SEI set. Glittered of course.

Another beautiful Ellen Clapsaddle image set in a medley of vintage papers. The polka dot and Christmas advertisement are both digital papers from Bety’s Etsy Shop.

The other bits and pieces are all from my own gatherings – the jingle bell is painted and glittered, the stick pin I also colored with a Sharpie marker – nothing fancy here – and I’m not sure where I got the stick pin, but they seem easy to come by in most of the online shops, buttons are from Papertrey.

Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful holiday season. We’re expecting a good size storm now ~ hopefully a little snow to get our ski season started for Thanksgiving. Our winds are high and the squirrels are going through our rain gutters looking for last minute pine nuts I guess, and I’ve found 2 of the most gorgeous nests on the ground – one from the wind and one from the squirrels.

Give Thanks

Among all the most wonderful things related to Autumn is probably my most favorite holiday ~ Thanksgiving. I love the smells, the turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy with stuffing ~ and my mother’s pumpkin pie which I make now as she has not been with us for several years, the traditions, the gathering of family ~ all cozy and warm.

Vintage Paris

I made this a couple weeks back and put it into my Etsy shop, but have never posted here. This was a project that was so much fun ~ I thoroughly enjoyed every step of the process.

I wanted to make a gift pocket of tags ~ but I did not want it to look like so many I see out there. They’re beautiful, but not exactly what I wanted. My sister-in-law gave me a ton (quite literally) of envelopes of varying sizes, and I needed a way to use them. So here’s what I did…

I simply took an envelope near to the size I wanted, trimmed off some on both sides to get the exact size I wanted, cut off the flap, covered what was left o the envelope with a variety of papers, then sewed the sides and bottom together for stability. I used my own hand-dyed and crinkled vintage seam binding, a vintage if not antique button I found in an antique store a couple of years back, and a small tag distressed, stamped, and accented with a little pearl. The beautiful image of the Eiffel Tower is from Trisha at FrenchKissed. I also used some of my vintage trim found at a flea market many years ago – this is not the new stuff you see now – it really is vintage.

Then the tags…

I started with small shipping tags, soaked them in a mix of tea, coffee, my own homemade vanilla and cloves, crinkled them up, straightened them out, put them on a cookie pan, sprayed them with glimmer mist and baked them just to the point of toasty. They smelled (and still do) delicious. After I applied the images, I glittered them just enough for a little sparkle, and tied on some more of my seam binding.

Beautiful Black Ravens

We have them here in South Lake Tahoe and they ARE beautiful and really BIG! Of course I love them – they all seem to come at the same time and take over our street or front yard in big groups – very majestic. Gingersnap Creations is challenging us to make a project featuring ravens it GC123 - Random Redhead Challenge – Ravens. The challenge closes Nov. 13th, so there’s still plenty of time to play. I chose to do another composition book – working through the many I have in my closet and still working to use up some of my older papers so that I actually have room to store it all sanely.

This one is for Chelsea for Christmas…

Inside, I made a pocket for a bookmark and the bookmark to go into it, and inside the back cover I made a place to slide notes etc. into.

The image is from Vintage Stampers, but I seem to have lost track of the site and can’t seem to find it in a search – sorry. If anyone knows where they are now, I would appreciate knowing also – thanks. The glittered black flourish is from Michael’s a couple of years back, and the black lace is from Creating is Fun ~ another great shop on Etsy.

Coffee & Cream with a Hint of Dark Chocolate

I have a new love ~ a challenge site that’s a little more me ~ or another side of me anyway. Fashionable Stamping Challenges is challenging us to use the colors: coffee, cream, and dark chocolate along with stamping. I’ve been working on Thanksgiving items and one of my newer cards I found happily fit this challenge. It’s a great site so stop by and take part, there’s still time.

The card stock is vintage cream from Papertrey, as is the sentiment from the “Daily Designs” set, and the large stamped leaf flourished image in the background is from Inkadinkado’s “Fall Season” set. I believe the small leaf I stamped under the sentiment is also from Papertrey, the “Fall Elegance” collection (I can’t find it at the moment as my work space looks like a bomb went off in it). The book paper is from an antique book I found at the thrift store, the vintage trim is a flea market find from a few years back, crinkled seam binding is my own.

It’s time for Pink Saturday…

I’m always looking for something pink so that I can play along and usually I have to make something. This week is no exception. I’ve had some composition books sitting in my closet for a long while now and I decided that this year I’m actually going to put some together for Christmas presents for my granddaughters and niece. I’m still going through and trying to use up older paper (and I will be for a long time I’m sure) so this is perfect. And what young girl doesn’t like pink. So here’s my first one….

Inside the front cover (of which I failed to take a photo) there’s a little pocket with a bookmark in it and inside the back cover is a place to slide in items. I’m pleased with how it turned out,I had a great time making this ~ I hope she likes it.

A Boo-tiful Color Challenge

City Crafter Challenge Blog this week is challenging us to use primarily the colors black and cream. Perfect for the last few days before Halloween, but your project does not have to be Halloween. I love the challenges these ladies put together ~ and I caught it early enough ~ there really is time left to play along. I’m also linking up to Paper Issues 31 Days of Halloween – this is a fun challenge too ~ drop by and take a look at both of them.

The background DP is digital from the “Rosewater” collection by Pink Pearl Studio on Etsy, the Polka Dot I believe is from one of the My Mind’s Eye paper I found on close-out last year at Michael’s (sorry). The adorable little image is from Bety’s shop on Etsy, the “halloween” is a stamp from the “Phantom” set by Pink Paislee.

CASE-ing Julie Koerber

Most of you are probably familiar with Julie as the DT Coordinator for Flourishes stamps, etc. She has been chosen as the Featured Stamper on SplitcoastStampers HERE and so a challenge has been issued to case one of her cards from her gallery HERE and upload it to SCS. All the instructions can be found HERE.

I’ve admired Julie’s work for many years as I’m sure you have also, and thought I would like to play along. Our anniversary is this Wednesday, and so I needed to make a card for my sweet husband of course ~ and I’m always looking for simple layouts thinking I’m going to get through it quickly ~ usually however, that does not happen and this was no exception. I chose this card of Julie’s for the layout ~ I love it when the layout gives you a good look at beautiful DPs ~ and this one does. I’ve been going through my older paper and trying to use some of it up and I love this piece for masculine cards. I also recently purchased from Flourishes, the “What a Catch” stamp set found HERE. My husband, father-in-law, and son-in-law all love to fish so I knew the moment I saw it that it would get a lot of use and it has.

I wanted to use corrugated cardboard as I love the earthy organic manly feel and look to it. Peeled off the top layer in places to show the wonderful texture underneath, simply stamped the image and adhered it, tied on some rustic button twine, stamped the image of the creel, colored it, cut it out and adhered it. I can’t tell you how much I LOVE this set ~ and I’m pleased with the card as well.

Happy World Card Making Day and Happy Pink Saturday!

Paper Crafts Magazine always puts together a fun several days leading up to WCMD – the day that kicks off the beginning of the Holiday card making season. It’s also Pink Saturday at Beverly’s How Sweet the Sound.

I’m going to mix the two. So how about a pink Christmas for Pink Saturday…

And one last card ~ I absolutely love this image and I’m pretty sure my Christmas cards this year are going to be all about this beautiful Santa image. It’s from a free digital paper pack from Miss Cutie Pie found HERE. DP is from the Mistletoe and Co. Collection by Pink Paislee – it’s older, so I’m not sure if it’s still available. The sentiment strip and sentiment are from Papertrey ink – new this last release, so it will be on the home page. The snowflake and jingle bell are from Michael’s. I painted the bell brown and then glittered it and tied it all up with Papertrey’s button twine. I also added a little Buttercream acrylic paint to the edges.

The First Day of Autumn

Autumn is my most favorite time of the year ~ the colors, the smells, the feel in the air, the change in temperature, the pumpkins, apples, amd squash, the baking, the coziness, the beautiful falling leaves. We have some leaves falling, but mostly it’s the cute little squirrels throwing heavy pine cones out of our trees onto our deck and into our yard, rummaging through my container plants on the deck and front porch in search of a safe place to hide their pine nuts after they’ve torn a pine cone into millions of pieces and littered it and dirt everywhere, eating the violas, etc. Really though ~ I do love them and it’s all part of the natural cycle of life. I don’t mind sharing with them ~ they are really so cute as they sit in my pots munching away ~ after all, they do have to eat ~ and I do so love watching them…

Oldies But Goodies Blog Hop

It’s that time again – The Design D.I.V.A.’s Blog Group is having their monthly Oldies But Goodies Blog Hop – the point of which is to use something that you have not used in 6 months. You should have come here from Barbara’s blog or if you need to start at the beginning ~ that would be Carolyn’s Blog.

First let me apologize to those of you that visit me frequently – I really am so sorry I’ve been MIA since last month’s blog hop. I started in January of this year getting serious about my Etsy shop and started working it like I “thought” it should be done ~ and sure enough ~ It’s working! Thanks to any of you that have been instrumental in that. What with that, and the shop I design for in town and our family business I’ve been a little busy. I’ll try to do better. But enough babble and onto my projects.

I mentioned before that I’m trying to go through all my older paper and use it up – I hate waste and some of it is not even my style anymore. So these cards were all made from the same piece of DP which is probably about 3 years old, and the wood “BOO” is I don’t even know how old ~ I’ve had it awhile. These will be going into Lake Tahoe Holidays here in town on a more traditional note.

And my favorite so far…

And one last one ~ this is a card I made last year and submitted to a magazine, however it was not picked up and I don’t believe I’ve shared it. I love this image ~ and you know I don’t like coloring all that much ~ but it was another must have, is called “First Flight” and is from A Day for Daisies. I don’t see it in her Etsy shop just now – but there a lot of really cute digitals to see. If you are unfamiliar – check it out.

Design Divas OBG Blog Hop

I made this card for my Father in Law for Father’s Day and have never posted it. My “Oldie but Goodie” is the little fishing bauble bumble bee. The image is “Mr. Brown on Vacation” from Phindy’s. I first saw it on Linda’s blog at Payne Holler Cards and I had to have it. This is the image of my Father-in-Law ~ it looks exactly like him. He has the same hat and the float tube and the moustache. He loved it and right away said “Hey, that’s me!!”

Design Gives Back & Miracle Makeover for Charlie & Pink Saturday all in one…..

Vintage in Black and White

I’ve seen some vintage black and white done around the blogosphere lately and when I found and had to have this image called “Summer Romance” and is found at The Vintage Workshop, I knew I had to give it a try – now I’m hooked – so there’s more to come in the hopefully near future – I bought some beautiful black lace trim I absolutely cannot wait to use. But in the meantime, here’s my first attempt at a vintage black and white…

Get Well Soon and Birthday Wishes

Happy Tuesday to everyone! We finally have consistent beautiful weather here at the lake and I just love spending every minute possible outside. My sweet granddaughter Ashlee Rae is coming this Saturday to spend a week with us and I am so looking forward to walks and bike rides and coffee outside a little café, and shopping. Can’t wait! My contribution this week is a collection of baby items I’ve been working on for the shop in town Lake Tahoe Holidays and also my Etsy shop. I’ve decided to make my creating life a little less chaotic and messy (to say the very least – my studio looks like a bomb went off in it) I’m going to focus on somewhat of a theme each week – this week it was for “Baby”.

I posted this one the other day, but decided to post it again for Pink Saturday…

CR84N Color Challenge

ATC Swap Goodies…

A few weeks back City Crafter Challenge Blog challenged us to make an ATC, then decided to go a step further and do a swap. I received my goodies in the mail the other day from June in Indiana. Wow! All the goodies she sent me – I just can’t wait to use them.

Here’s the ATC she made for the challenge –look at those sweet little scissors and that gorgeous flower…. If you want a closer look, just click on the photo…

And then just look at the stickers, the handmade stick pins, carnival tickets, the cutest tiny little tags, glassine bags, baker’s twine…

All these beautiful handmade sparkly flowers, butterflies, darling little puffy angel wings ~ can’t wait to use these….

Blank cards, a ribbon bound album to decorate, tiny little notebooks, gold photo corners, larger size glassine and paper bags, a wonderful altered paper bag made into a pocket with darling little tags, a mini scrapbook kit…

A wonderful star chipboard album – I can’t wait to turn this into a little album for Christmas or 4th of July – I love chipboard albums!!

Remember Peter Rabbit…

One of my most beloved characters as a child and read so many times to my own children. There’s something so sweet and magical about those little funny characters. I’ve had these adorable little images for awhile now and finally just yesterday decided what I wanted to do with them.

So many persons are now using “wish tags” as an alternate to a guest book for weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, birthday and retirement parties, anniversaries…you get the drift. I decided to make Peter Rabbit wish tags – that can also be used as favors or place cards at baby showers.

I added a small hand stamped flourish and a tiny pearl or rhinestone to each of them. They are now in my Etsy shop as a set of 20 – everyone with a different image and completely customizable.

City Crafter Challenge

Apparently I’m confused – I mean, I know I’m usually slipping in just under the wire – but I didn’t make it this time. The challenge said we had until 6/21/2011 at 11:59 p.m. EST – I thought that meant tonight – but it didn’t and now the challenge is closed. But, I’m still going to post my project. The challenge was to create an ATC, so here’s mine…

Flourishes has their new release this week and has issued The Star Spangled Challenge to celebrate. The winner receives their entire June release – WOW! Red, white, and blue are the colors or they also stated if you’re from another country to use your own flag colors. I love this set from Flourishes and I turn to it time and again – “Patriotism on Parade”…

You know how some images just captivate your heart? Well, this is one of them. It’s from The Vintage Workshop and I’ve only made a couple of cards – and actually they are very similar as I also LOVE this brown harlequin paper picked up at JoAnn’s.

This one I have posted before – it is the one published in this year’s May/June issue of Cardmaker – the inside reads “I’m so glad you’re mine” and I still have not found my photo of the inside…

A Few Little Things…

Just some random projects I’ve been working on ~ mostly for my Etsy shop. I’ve been requested to design some table numbers, wish tags, and place cards lately, so here are some of the items I have put together…

This is one of my all time favorites – anything French, gittery, and with a bird or birds. The table number…

This was for a special customer doing a Star Wars and Lord of the Rings combination reception and asked me to design something that would work. She wanted “locations” rather than numbers, and her colors were silver, black, royal blue and white…

City Crafter Challenge and Card Patterns

This weeks challenge at City Crafter Challenge Blog is “Back to Basics” and we’re challenged to use paint and cardboard in our project…

Talk about perfect! I was working on patriotic cards and thinking of using some of my peeled cardboard I used at Christmas to make ornaments as part of the design. I love the earthy organic feel of peeling and painting this element, and this challenge tipped the scales in that direction. I also used the Card Patterns Sketch 117 found HERE….

CR84FN Color Challenge

I ran onto another new challenge blog this week – CR84FN. I was instantly attracted to the colors for this challenge as I just completed a card with these colors and had not found a place for it yet nor had I posted it on my blog – and yay – there it was. This is the inspiration photo and the colors are Kraft, Yellow, and Blue

A couple of weeks ago I posted that I am trying to use up some of my older paper and make some room, so I’ve been choosing a paper and then making a few projects. Last time I posted a masculine version and now this is the more feminine version… and in case you’re wondering, my kraft color is in my bow, somewhat in the dp, and then on my bee embellishment. By the way, this is my new favorite stamp set – Butterfly Garden by Pink Paislee. I LOVE this set – it is so me….

The die cut is also from the same line of Pink Paislee and you can find them at Emma’s Paperie, scrapbook.com, Ellen Hutson LLC and Nona’s – I’m sure other places as well – but I know these stores have them – unless of course they are out again – this collection seems to have gone really fast.

Oldies But Goodies Blog Hop

It’s time for the Design Diva’s monthly blog hop…..

If you arrived here from Vicki’s blog at Bountiful Blessings you are in the right place. If you want to start at the beginning please start at Cindy’s blog Stamp with Me Cindy G. The point is to use something in our project that we have not used in the past 6 months – I have so much stash and lately have been going through my older papers one at a time and trying to use them up all at once. I really do love the feeling of using up what I have. So, my project is a card made with an older piece of paper – I believe it is the Periphery line from Basic Grey?? With Father’s Day just ahead I decided to try my hand at a vintage masculine card – something I always struggle with, but here it is anyway…..

The buttons on this card are truly “vintage” some found in a lovely shop on Etsy and some found just junkin at garage sales, flea markets, and thrift stores – one of my most favorite things to do. The button card stamp is from the Button Boutique set, and the sentiment is from the Fillable Frames #8 stamp set – both from Papertrey Ink, the burlap is from JoAnn’s, and the little dragonfly etc. strip if from another shop on Etsy called Cemerony.

and it’s finally looking a little like the softer side of Spring is slowing coming upon us – rain forecast for today and the weekend – but we’ve been having beautiful sunny and somewhat warm days. I’m enjoying walking around and looking at all the tiny little shoots coming up, pruning dead wood off my roses and getting them fertilized, dreaming of the beautiful plants I will be planting soon – I hope! And even though I cannot plant yet – this is just one of the beauties I’m looking forward to…

Brag Monday at Graphics Fairy

Do you wonder where you can get vintage images for your projects? I have a few places that I get mine. Two of the ones I use are The Graphics Fairy and The Vintage Workshop. Both have beautiful images, and I thought I would share one of my latest projects.

A business associate gave my husband and I a box of 3 Jack Daniel’s liquors for Christmas a few years back. The Jack was great – but so was the box and I could not get rid of it, but had no idea what I was going to do with it. Turns out I came to a point where I had a need for a display box for greeting cards in the shop I sell my cards and tags from – Lake Tahoe Holidays. So, I drug it upstairs, removed the door and began the process. Of course in my excitement, I forgot to take a photo before I added the paint – but, I did take a photo of the door this morning so that you could see the original color of the box…

Yep, dark brown. I painted it cream….

And began layering papers and clip art – the dictionary page and the background paper are both from The Graphics Fairy…

The beautiful swallow is also from Karen…..

The apple blossoms and French ephemera here are from The Vintage Workshop

I think I can see more of these in my future..

I have something so special to me to share with you today. One of my Etsy customers bought these sweet little tags from me….

And just look what she did with them…tied them to the little Easter baskets as part of the beautiful table scape she has set up for her Easter brunch. I love all the wonderful pieces she has put together, the little white rabbit with green ribbon around his neck set on that gorgeous green toile(?)plate, then the napkin with the green leaf charger along with the vintage silver ~ oh I could just go on and on! What a lovely and inviting arrangement she has created for her guests. I should be so talented! Absolutely beautiful Bren, and thank you so much for sharing it with me.

A New Little Someone….

The CardMaker Magazine for March/April has been out for awhile, so I feel that I can now share this with you. I’m not one to blow my own horn so-to-speak, but I really love how this turned out and that it was published. I’m beginning to realize that so many times I am completely inspired by an image that I love. I’ve had this image for sometime now and it is one of the sweetest little vintage baby images I have ever seen. I purchased it at The Vintage Workshop, the sentiment is from “Baby Button Bits” by Papertrey Ink.

And this one from the May/June issue of CardMaker. Again, I was totally inspired by the image from The Vintage Workshop. The sentiment is my own and for the life of me I know I took a shot of the inside of this card – but I can’t find it anywhere so I guess the only place you would be able to see it is in the May/June issue of CardMaker. But, inside it says “I’m so glad you’re mine.”

and one more – this image is from Digi Stamp Character - Pure Innocence. This one was very different from what I usually do – but again, it was the image that drew me in.

I’m getting low on pinks again – time to go shopping I guess or maybe spend some time going through some of my “stuff” that’s still packed away. This is the last pink that I am aware of and I just bought it at Lake Tahoe Holidays – she has the best stuff – I’m sure if I looked hard enough I could find something else. I’ve been trying to get a few things in for Easter and just look at this little cutie…. see his little pink ears

and full of candy – although it’s not full anymore – yum!!!

And, I know these are not pink – but I could not resist – I’m a sucker for any bird…

And of course I cannot leave without a few more designs for Easter…

Happy Pink Saturday to You….

….it’s that time again. Please head on over to Beverly’s at How Sweet the Sound and visit some or all of the blogs listed there for a true delight to the senses. There are so many talented people that take part in this – you will see some beautiful creativity, inspiration, and even more than that – some really nice people taking the everyday to extraordinary.

I love winter and after Christmas when everyone was talking about being ready for Spring, I was not – I had not had enough winter. Then we got several storms and lots of beautiful snow and I began to feel winter fulfilled. Now we’re having beautiful days and the snow is melting off and I see the beginnings of Spring with my daffodils and crocus peeking though – they are ready for Spring and I am welcoming it as well. It will be several weeks before we’re in full bloom so I’ve brought a little indoors. The wonderful thing about carnations is their longevity and beautiful fragrance – so I bought 3 bunches and put them in my vase and then my sweet husband found and brought me pink tulips (my favorite) – they are a joy to my heart…

and a sweet little Easter decoration I could not pass up……

First let me say how honored I am to have won on the City Crafter Challenge Blog last week for “Babies, Buttons, and Bows”. Thank you so much ladies. This blog has captured my heart – to me the challenges are always unique and fun – I think it’s because I do not have to use a specific company’s stamps or paper or whatever – we can do whatever we like with whatever we like and are not tied to a certain look other than our own – know what I mean?? This week’s challenge is “Celebrate the Good Times” using either a banner or the word “Party” in our project.

I’m putting together a display for Lake Tahoe Holidays of all occasion cards and was working on Birthday cards when Cheryl put up the challenge – so it worked out well. If I get time I may just put together a Spring banner or a banner page in the wedding album I’m working on and enter that also, but until then, here’s mine. A little more on my traditional side…

This is why I posted last week to let any of you interested know about this challenge – because here I am posting my submission at the “Last Minute”. The challenge is to use a crown somewhere in your project. I hope some of you checked out City Crafter Challenge Blog – I love that their challenges are a little different from the usual – to me a little more on the “artsy” side.

Here is mine. I have completed another page for my mini wedding album. You know, sometimes I like more on a page than this – but then sometimes I really like the clean and simple – this is one of those cases. I kept looking at it and wondering what else I could put on it – and realized I really like it just the way it is. And, it’s purpose is a photo page – so what else does it need but a beautiful photo of some part of someone’s wedding….

It’s time for Pink Saturday again

….and we are still snowing – not as much – but snowing and yes I still love it. I have always loved stormy moody days – it means staying inside, putting together a pot of soup and warm bread, and spending more time creating – sometimes by only natural light from the window along with candlelight.

When I was growing up, my Mom always had a candle in a small decorative bowl for just such occasions – and I loved it. I still love candlelight. Somewhere in time, my mom’s candle was all used up and I believe that beautiful bowl was broken or lost – but I had to recreate it because it meant so much and still does. I found this bowl in a thrift store or garage sale some time ago and added my own candle. Now it sits on my sideboard waiting for a wonderful excuse to use it.

Happy Pink Saturday from Under 3–4 Feet of Snow~~~

…yes, that’s right – we’re still snowing. Actually, this is pretty typical for us and I really do love it – I’m sure my husband doesn’t feel the same as I do since he does all the snow blowing, etc. He will be out there all day today! He closed up shop early yesterday, because the snow was blowing so hard - we literally were in white out all day and people were staying in and staying warm. I’ve never seen the snow so high on our deck. I’ll try to get pics today and post tomorrow or Tuesday. It really is beautiful!

Enough about that – on to Pink Saturday – and I want to thank all of you for all your inspirational comments last week. I didn’t realize they kept coming in all week, and just read the last of them today – so I will get back to you all – promise.

This is the sweetest little dish and such beautiful pink flowers and embossed edging – you can see a little bit in the photo and if you click on it maybe you can see it better. I have no idea what it was used for……….

except that on this one, the person I bought it from wrote on her tag “butter pat”, so maybe the one above was also used for that purpose. I have always been fascinated with the little serving pieces used in times past. When I was growing up, my mother had little serving pieces – like salt cells – that’s what she called them. Do you know what they are? Tiny cut glass bowls – probably no bigger than an 1 – 1 1/2” in diameter with a tiny little spoon for scooping out salt to add to your food. I just love all that! And, I inherited them – although I do not use them, maybe I will now.

Anyway, these are just the sweetest things, and as you can see I have them on hangers to hang with the platter I showed you a couple of weeks ago.

It’s time for Pink Saturday again…

See the snow outside the window? That is what was leftover from Thanksgiving and Christmas. We NOW have several more feet of snow that just started Wednesday evening and is still going strong.

Papertrey Ink’s release countdowns this month? If not, you need to get on over to Nichole Heady's Blog and check them out! Every month they put out the BEST stuff and you can’t imagine how they are going to top that – and then they do!! Do you like vintage buttons and button cards, how about doilies and cute little tags….yep and the list goes on an on. And they have a new challenge everyday where you can win the best prizes.

The challenge today is to make a tag with a frame. I decided I was going to make the tag for my sweet husband’s Valentine’s Day Gift. So, here it is…

A Special Gift…..

from a special friend – my secret sister on SCS. Thank you for such a fun and wonderful box of goodies and the time and effort you put into this! It’s so much fun to get a box of goodies in the mail.

Look at all this!! Beautiful brown satin ribbon, the sweet card, pop dots and adhesive, and on and on – all things I can really use besides being so darn cute – see the little domino ornament – that will definitely be on my tree next year.

Let me just say – there is one thing missing from this photo – a Kit Kat candy bar which I opened and ate immediately, but look at this little beauty. I love the snow globe and pink snow Angie.

and this cute little penguin – penguins are one of my most favorite images for Winter, along with a handmade paper clip – that will get a lot of use.

With a little research, I found that It was made by the W.S. George Radisson Pottery Co., in the U.S.A. around 1944 and the name of the pattern is Laura Lee.

Cottage Colors Party

There’s a new party in town….

Etsy Cottage Style is now having a monthly Color Party beginning the 4th Monday of each month. This month’s color is blue. Pop on over and see some lovely blogs and blues.

My blues came about by accident really – as I’m not that much into them. But a friend gave me a bottle of wine in a beautiful cobalt blue with a wonderful dragonfly (one of my favorite things) label and I could not part with it.

Now what am I suppose to do – it doesn’t really go with anything in my home. Interestingly enough I happened upon a garage sale and what did I find – a beautiful little blue and white bird – some type of lid I guess as you can tell there was at some point another piece to it – but I love birds and now I had something to go with my wine bottle. Looks like I didn’t take a really good photo of it – it’s in the bottom left corner (and that old float is really a pretty shade of blue – but it also did not take a good photo.

Now you know, 2 things just are not symmetrical so now I had to have another piece and what did I find – a really old beat up white bowl with blue trim, I’m not even sure how I came by it, but it was in a box of old dishes that I somehow inherited – now I had my 3 pieces and the beginning of a collection. It’s in the back against the wall. The little item to the bottom right is a broken and chipped – but I love it and had to have it – I have no idea what it is – maybe part of a child’s tea set? It’s one of my favorites, and there’s a better photo below.

I’ve kept if fairly small contained in built in shelves in one of our bathrooms which has now been totally relegated to blues, creams/whites, and a soft latte color.

To My Sweetheart

…..that’s how many of these cards are signed first by the admirer who eventually became the young woman’s husband. Aim was the young man’s name and he always called his “girl” sweetheart, my little girl, and my little wife. These are a treasured flea market find from a few years back. They were produced by Paul Frederick Volland who founded The Volland Co. of Chicago in 1908. Only one has a date on the back – 1936, and it looks like maybe these all came in a box of assorted greeting cards as most of them have the same “look” and another thing they have in common – they all have “Pink” on them……

I love all the detail, the silver embossing, and the beautiful papers that look like an old moiré wallpaper or fabric.

It’s sunny warm and gorgeous

……here in South Lake. Unbelievably beautiful weather here yesterday and today. We were and are suppose to be in the mid 50s yesterday and again today. It was so nice being outside cleaning up the front porch after the squirrels and blue jays. These little guys are so messy, but I love them so, and after all, they are just trying to find all the little treasures they buried in my pots during the Fall. I know we have a long ways to go before Spring, but what a joy to have a little sunshine and warmth.

Happy Pink Saturday!

This is one of my favorite days. I love getting up early, making my coffee or tea, and spending some quiet time early in the morning visiting some so very beautiful blogs and such talented people. Pop on over to Beverly’s at How Sweet the Sound and be inspired. Thank you Beverly for all that you do in hosting Pink Saturday for us.

Some of my pinks today come from the shop here in town that I do design work for – Lake Tahoe Holidays. The shop is a year round Christmas shop and covers all of the other holidays as well. Keri has a great eye and I love working with her. These are just a couple of her Valentine items. The cupcake is really cute, and I LOVE the flamingo. IRL this flamingo is bright pink and very whimsical. I think I have to have it!!!

And then there’s this pretty crackle glass heart….

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

….Look at what old man winter brought to us last night….

Isn’t it beautiful?! However, almost all of South Lake lost its power due to several power poles breaking under the weight. It’s 4:45 p.m. here now and we’ve been without power since 5:30 a.m. I’ve had candles lit in every room and the hall and truly, it’s been a really nice quiet day just working on a few projects – yes, by candlelight….

I’ve have a few more items almost complete, but I’m only posting 2 tonight. Both are in my Etsy shop.

It’s almost Christmas and I hope you have all taken the time to be in the present and truly enjoy this magical time of the year – seems we get so busy sometimes, the holiday passes us by and when we look back – we feel like we’ve missed it. I’m wanting to feel every moment of this holiday. We’re going to have a beautiful White Christmas this year, I’ve got Christmas music going in the house all the time, the decorations are up, the Christmas cards sent and now I’m going to make cookies on this cozy, cuddly, snowy day. My Last Magical Monday

Good Morning all – I hope you had a wonderful weekend. And yes, this is my last week as part of the DT for Paper Cupcakes. Let me say that I have enjoyed myself tremendously, Nina and the other DT members have been a delight to work with, and I’ve met so many sweet and talented ladies – I’m going to miss all of you so much. I was given the option to stay on, but I have so much going on in January with our family business and year end, etc. that I would have been overly stretched and stressed and on the other hand it wouldn’t be fair of me to just “bow out” so to speak for the next few weeks and then pop back in. But ladies, it’s been a pleasure and a wonderful experience.

And now on to my card. I am actually the one hosting the challenge this week with one of Nina’s new images “Merry Christmas Snowman” and because everyone is so busy with holiday preparations, I went for a simple and easy traditional red and green Christmas card.

My paper is a mix – the polka dot (which I love) is from the “Noel” line by Making Memories, the stripe is from a DCWV small mat pack that I have tossed aside by now and cannot find under the piles. A Little Bit of Whimsy

…is what I was feeling when I made this. I’ve been wanting to put something like this together for such a long time now – but seems there’s always something else in the way, and it isn’t like this goes together really fast.

Here’s another shot, but seems neither one is all that good – I just could not get my lighting right…

But, I had great fun working on it. The paper mache house is from Michael’s, the rest is just bits and pieces I had around my studio area, except for the little angel, I believe that is from the Little Pink Studio. I think I’m hooked though and would love to do more – maybe for Valentine’s Day as Christmas is now so close. We’ll see.

Did everyone have a nice relaxing weekend? What am I saying – Christmas is right around the corner – who has time to relax LOL!!?

Anyway, it’s Magical Monday at Paper Cupcakes and this week’s challenge is hosted by Carol. She has challenged us to use any image we have and make an ornament. I have to tell you – my mind went blank. I knew what image I wanted to use – isn’t he cute! His name is “Jingles” – I love penguins and I think he is adorable. So this is what I came up with, it’s nice and chunky and even though it’s all paper, the rosettes back to back make it incredibly sturdy.

I have been working on Christmas cards and tags for my Etsy shop and I have been wanting to make a card from this sweet image for awhile now – ever since I made the tags. I love her dress with the white fur all along the bottom and the sweet little blue birds. It really is a Christmas image – it has Merry Christmas in another language – that I do not know – underneath my “Christmas Blessings” I’ve used a lot of glitter and my own scrunched vintage seam binding, then topped it off with a cream button and pink rhinestone. I’ll definitely be making more cards with this image!

Shabby Little Christmas

Good Morning and Happy Wednesday to all. I have a few little Christmas goodies today – all just entered into my Etsy, along with some photos of Valhalla here in Lake Tahoe I took at the Holiday Fair I took part in.

This is just a few hours later and it continued to snow and snow and snow….

We had a wonderful time with children’s choirs caroling, lots of hot cider, and a tree that reached nearly to the top of the lodge. What a wonderful way to begin the Holiday Season.

Happy Pink Saturday

It’s Pink Saturday again and actually I am showing in the Valhalla Chritmas Show I wrote about in the next post down, and yes, it is snowing. If I can remember I will take my camera and take a few shots just so you will know what i mean about how beautiful it is out there – especially when it’s snowing.

Anyway, my pinks for today are…

This beautiful little trinket box my mother had for many years, and it is one of the many items I have saved. I’m sure it’s not valuable in terms of money, but it is treasured by me.

And a gift from my husband. It doesn’t really look pink in this light, but it is and beautifully etched also – you can just barely see it at the very bottom.

And last but not least I’ve decided that if I want to continue to participate in Pink Saturday – I’d better come up with a project to create my own “pinks”. I’m not sure exactly where this is going yet, but here is week one:

A Little Bit Thanksgiving, A Little Bit Christmas…

That’s what my post is about today – a little bit of both. I’ve been busy preparing for an Artist Event at our holiday store here in town and also for our once a year Christmas Craft Fair at Valhalla – a beautiful vintage property right on the lake. This is the area the rich from the Bay Area would come for Summer vacation with their hoards of servants – each servant having their own private little cabin on the estate. All these buildings have been preserved and are open to the public during the summer and once a year the lodge at Valhalla hosts this event. On top of that we’re expecting snow – what a wonderful and magical day this will be. These are a few of the items I will be showing:

Gifts and Awards …

…are always welcome and appreciated and I truly believe giver and receiver are blessed. I have recently received gifts from a few dear blogging friends. Julie from my SCS Blogging Group – The Designing D.I.V.A.S was my Secret Sister and several weeks back now I received this package of goodies from her – each one adored and treasured – because they were handmade for me by a person I know has a lot on her plate. Thank you Julie I really do love them.

And then there’s this – also from Julie in my Secret Sister package - is it not beautiful?!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!! Just look at all the work she put into this – truly a gift from the heart – the best kind. Thank you again Julie.

Season’s Greetings….

It’s Magical Monday at Paper Cupcakes and time for another challenge. This week our challenge is hosted by Pat who wants us to make a Christmas card using ribbon and glitter. The image is a new one “Who’s Candy”. I went pretty straightforward on mine using a patterned paper from one of the new DCWV paper packs from JoAnn’s, colored my image with a mix of colored pencils blended with OMS, some sheer red ribbon, glitter for the snow and around the edge of the stripe panel – them I went through some Christmas buttons from a package found at Michael’s and couldn’t believe there were gum drops in there and they were glittered!!

Magical Monday

Here it is November already. Where did October go? Time just moves so fast sometimes. I hope everyone had a fun Halloween! And before I forget, click on the Monday Market button on my left sidebar and check out the Etsy Cottage Style shops!

Our challenge this week for Paper Cupcakes Magical Monday is “Be Thankful” and is hosted by the talented Jessie. We are to use any acquired image and make a Thank You or Thanksgiving card. I have used the “Tulips” image again. When I used it the first time it was done all in pinks and pale greens – very light and airy, but I knew this was such versatile image that I wanted to use it in Autumn and also at Christmastime. This challenge was perfect and so I have used it again in the Autumn colors. It’s a great image to make a lot of quick and easy cards – and who doesn’t need a lot of little all occasion cards around!
